His research focuses on swarm robotics, the control of large number of simulated and real robots, inspired by the behavior of social insects. He looks at these systems from an interdisciplinary perspective that includes statistical physics and evolutionary biology. The major projects he has worked are related to: evolution of collective behaviors, statistical physics of collective motion and opinion dynamics and collective decision-making in swarms. He is interested in studying these models in contexts that go beyond robotics, such as within complex adaptive systems or social systems.
